US-based global leader in designing, engineering, and manufacturing, sell their product solutions into the white goods, commercial, and automotive industries and leverages this portfolio and technology into adjacent markets.

Primary applications include controls for clothes washers and dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, gas valves for space/central heating, and automotive/off-road temperature and fluid controls.

Business Challenge

The client produces several automotive valve products used in the automotive industry for coolant control applications. They were looking for a strategic partner who can ramp-up their development needs across two variants of their Actuators.

  • Variant #1 – 4 & 5 port actuator based on LIN Communication
  • Variant #2 – Upgrade the  24V automotive valve product line with PWM signal

Design and development of software for 24V automotive coolant control valve product line 

  • Valve control using LIN interface
    • Development of driver to receive control signals from PC via LIN interface 
    • Application to set actuator position based on received LIN control signal
    • Sent current actuator position feedback via LIN to the PC system
    • Capture and control the system behavior in case of error conditions in input voltage and high motor current 
    • Motor driver to control the direction and speed of DC motor
  • Valve control using PWM input
    • Development of  driver  to capture the duty cycle of input PWM signal for position control
    • Output PWM signal of duty cycle value corresponding to the current position of the actuator
    • Application to set actuator position angle as per input duty cycle and current position 
    • Capture and control the system behavior in case of error conditions in input voltage, PWM input duty cycle/frequency, and high motor current
    • An adaptive algorithm for input signal filtering for noisy environments
    • Motor driver to control the direction and speed of DC motor
