Client Overview

US based manufacturer of HVAC system and water heaters for residential & commercial buildings.

Business Need

  • The client was looking for a technology partner to develop a solution that can reduce the huge infrastructure cost of managing 75K+ connected field devices

VOLANSYS Contribution

  • Developed Wi-Fi adapter using Spring Boot that can handle 8K+ concurrent devices on AWS EC2
  • Defined new architecture and optimized the source code of the new solution to operate with lighter infrastructure
  • Implemented analytics on a cloud to show the connected devices details
  • Introduced load balancer for auto scaling to increase/reduce the number of servers required as per run-time load
  • Increased number of threads support by changing value of threads and file descriptor on OS (Linux 18.04)
  • Increased data fetching frequency from field devices to Wi-Fi adapter from 2 and 3 minutes to 3 seconds making processing 60 times faster
  • Addressed device disconnection issue by using MQTT
